Star Wars: Andor episodes 1-7
Dec. 13th, 2022 10:53 amI finally started watching Andor and it is hitting so many of my id tropes. I'm only through episode 7, but so far my thoughts can be summed up as !!!
*insert Brooklyn 99 meme* I've only known Maarva for a day and a half and if anything happens to her I would kill everyone in this room and then myself. And yeah I realize her death is being heavily foreshadowed and will probably happen this season, shush.
I don't know why, and I'm not in the mood to psychoanalyze myself over it, but the parent-child (and master-padawan, and other familial) relationships are a significant part of what makes me care about Star Wars.
I've often described myself as the world's most indifferent shipper (and the ships I do care about tend to not be megaships, for example there are less than 300 Han/Lando fics on Ao3 and just over 300 Padmé/Sabé fics), so having those familial bonds being so central to the main canon plots felt really validating, even if fandom likes to reduce things to shipability.
So, I love Cassian's family drama, I love the character arc of an emotionally traumatized badass learning to care about something bigger than themself/their immediate loved ones, I like the effort being put in to make the plot tie in with the larger world of Star Wars (I need to rewatch, I was getting tired during the scene it's mentioned but it said somewhere Cassian was on Mimban, which is the planet where Han meets Chewbacca and deserts from the Imperial Navy in S:ASWS, there's a mini-fic plotbunny for someone).
I also absolutely LOVE the Mon Mothma plotline!
I vividly remember freaking out when the Rogue One teaser dropped and Mon Mothma was in it. I'm really enjoying getting her POV of the political side of the Rebellion, and I like the way it's handled from a writing perspective. It's a plotline that has been pretty hit-or-miss in the print side of the Expanded Universe materials. Here, it's handled really well!
That's about it for my thoughts so far, I'm just really enjoying it!
