Challenge #12

In your own space, set yourself some goals for the coming year. They can be fannish or not, public or private. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

Before setting this year's goals, I'm going to take a moment to evaluate and reflect on last year's goals.

2022 Fannish goals:

  • Create and post 4 fanvids ✅

My success on this one depends on your interpretation, I created 1 full length vid and 4 mini vids. I'm calling it good enough.

  • Finish and post a fanfic ✅

I wrote and posted a 100 word drabble.

  • Read 50 books, 7 nonfiction, maybe finish up some of the series where I only have 1 book left to read but I lost interest ❌

Lol,nope. I got 26 total books and 5 nonfiction (a more thorough breakdown is located here). I also didn't finish any series, the closest I came was reading the two Culture novels I had on my TBR shelf, but I still have two left in the series to finish it off.

  • Finish reading the 2015 main Star Wars comic run, I only have 3 volumes left so this is pretty achievable ❌

Also lol nope, but in my defense the series was unavailable in physical copy for most of the year (unless you wanted to spend ~$60+ on a used copy of a single volume that usually retails for $17.99... which I finally did with some christmas money). Marvel seemed to have discontinued some of its paperback back-issue stock, and I have had not-great experiences trying to read comics in digital.

  • Socialize more in fannish spaces ❌
Lmao nope.

2022 Non-fannish goals:
  • Cook more & try a new recipe at least every month ✅
  • Get an eye exam❌
  • Go back to college and don't fail out ✅
  • Compile the app I spent the past year working on ❌

So, on to 2023 fannish goals:

  • Read 50 total books, 7 nonfiction.
  • Finish reading the 2015 main Star Wars comic run and the concurrent Dr. Aphra run, start reading the 2020 run written by Charles Soule
  • Finish at least two of my currently in-progress Star Wars vids.
  • Make another Babylon 5 vid

Non-fannish goals:

  • Get an eye exam
  • Find a new PCP doctor and get my epi-pen renewed, it's is so expired
  • Continue cooking from scratch on a regular basis and try a new recipe at least once a month
  • Enjoy life as much as possible, maybe find a direction that feels meaningful along the way.
  • Get out hiking more
  • Visit The House On The Rock

Quite a few repeats, but they're still things I want and a goal is a helpful target even I I miss the metaphorical bullseye.

Woah! That is a lot of big goals! I am one of those people where goals I can’t meet make me anxious and freaked out, but I’m glad you have a system that works for you.

My mission in life is to make the world weirder, because A: it’s just a good idea, and 2: it’s going to happen around me anyway, I may as well do it deliberately. May you find a purpose that you don’t mind dedicating your life to in 2023, and good luck!

I have a few repeats on mine as well. All your goals sound good, with a nice variety (and seeing your post, I realize I should probably go in for an eye appointment too). Best of luck! :D
